I don't know about all of you, but I am worn out!
More than worn out though, I was ABSOLUTELY blown away at how much you guys care about me and my kids. I received quite a few emails asking how our holiday's went and since I truly do care about you all, I figured that sharing a few pictures would allow me to share a bit of our (crazy) holiday's with you.
We kicked off this season with Halloween. It was a whirlwind of a month as Spiderman, Elsa, and I participated in two parades, the Halloween Zoo festival, attended to two pumpkin farms (remember that disaster?), several Halloween parties, a haunted house, our town's trick-or-treating event, and trick-or-treated on Halloween. We had a lot of fun but I think I can safely say that I was a little more than thrilled when I was able to stuff their costumes into the play dress-up bin at the end of the month (plus that stupid Elsa costume kept glittering my entire car. I despise glitter).

Next up was Thanksgiving. We actually had two Thanksgiving this year, the first being a pre-Thanksgiving so lovingly hosted by Frisbee Boy's Parents.
The actual day of Thanksgiving was hosted by some very dear friends and with the exception of a trip to the ER (watch for an upcoming post with the full story) it was very enjoyable.
I give major probs to both those families because despite me telling them not to cater to our needs, they both went above and beyond pulled off amazing dietery specific Thanksgiving meals.

Last year I really lacked any sort of Chistmas spirit as I struggled to navigate the holidays without my family. Because of that, the season went without much attention being paid to it and when it was over I felt really guilty that my kids had missed out on some of the magic of their youth.
This year I was determined to make up for it, which looking back now may have been a bit ambitious as I am througouly exhausted. Aside from the whole Christmas Tree project, making edible snowmen, and a ridiculous amount of family movie nights on the couch (I love that they are old enough to watch Christmas movies!!), my Platonic Husband and I also took our kids to a free Christmas festival with games, rides, and the Santa Man himself.
On another night I packed the kids up and took them to a drive through lights display. I don't know what they enjoyed more, the lights or the fact that I let them have french fries in the car.
There was baking, a LOT of baking, which I'm really thankful for since as you've read on here even food can sometimes be somewhat of a luxury for us.
crock pot lasagna!
Upon some pretty extreme insistence from a few people that wanted to love on us for Christmas my children wrote letters to Santa.
We spent a great deal of time tracking Santa on the NORAD Santa tracker
And when he got close we quickly put out cookies and milk for him.
Of course we didn't forget to leave some oats for the reindeer on the front lawn!
"Santa" did come to our house by way of the people who received the kids Santa letters and let me tell you, we could not have felt more blessed. (I was actually more astounded than they were because I did not let my children ask for such expensive gifts).
Christmas was wonderful and I wouldn't have changed a thing. I'm not sure that I have ever felt more blessed, appreciative, and loved in my entire life.
The holiday's aren't complete though without a fitting send off to the old year, so we did it up in style on New Years Eve.
By "style," I mean....my style.
Luckily I wasn't alone in my sense of "style."

Even the kids got in on the action.
We ate until we nearly exploded, played games until our abs hurt from laughing, and then drank until we started.... dancing.
Eventually we made it to midnight where we had a balloon drop for the kids.
How cute is the mustache that was printed on the cup? Please see also: I drew three different noses, they all came out looking like dicks. I give up, I simply don't have that much time. Oh well, it's not the worst you've seen on this blog.
So all in all that pretty much sums up our holidays! It was an amazing year, it really was. There were definitely some struggles but what I learned from them more than made them worth living through.
So good-bye 2014 you served me well and hello 2015! I can't wait to see what you have in store for me!!
With that I will share with you a friendly midnight kiss and also prove that I absolutely cannot draw lips (or a goatee for that matter).
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and I wish you nothing but the best in 2015.
I'm glad you had a wonderful holiday season! Also, your nose looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHaha, which one, the one I drew that came out looking like a dick or the one covered by drawn on glasses? Hehe.
DeleteHow were your holidays?
Awesome, Eden. Thanks for sharing your holidays with us!! I'm so glad they turned out well for you. Looks like you had a great party for New Years. :)
ReplyDelete:) We did have fun! I saw the pics you put on Facebook, looks like you had a great time as well!
DeleteWe almost played a drinking game here on Halloween - take a shot every time an Elsa shows up at your door. But then we realized we'd all be in the hospital in 15 minutes because EVERYONE was Elsa this year, so we decided not to play.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great holiday season. I love the balloons you dropped from your ceiling. What a great idea! :)
I saw that memefor the drinking game going around Facebook and sent it to all my friends saying I would send my Girl Child Elsa over to start them out! It was RIDICULOUS. Whoever came up with that had a super cute idea but man you are right, we would have all been plastered! Lol My Platonic Husband and I decided to count them at the zoo and we got some ridiculous number, like 70 or something.
DeleteMy friends hubby did that! I thought that was super cute!! (It was their house) People are so creative :)
Sounds like an AMAZING holiday season for you and the kids! We didn't do nearly as much and I still felt utterly overwhelmed. I have no idea how things managed to get so crazy here. We're all fairly introverted here, so we spent some of our time off just in the quietness of our home.
ReplyDeleteA lot of the pre-Christmas time was spent helping my eldest daughter prepare her college application for next fall. She applied early-decision to a college in the LA area, and the application was due in mid-November. Happily, she got her acceptance letter in early December, so things started to calm down a bit after that.
NOT looking forward to a full work week starting tomorrow!!
You're back!
DeleteCongrats to your daughter!!!!
Yes this full work week seems like a lot of early mornings. Not a fan....
I had actually wondered why you had no Halloween/Thanksgiving pictures, should have known you were making one big Merry Thanksgivoween Year's post :D
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you let your kids stay up until midnight? That's so awesome, I wish I was allowed to do that at that age! (And I love the "balloon drop"!)
Haha! Nice, love the holiday blend!!
DeleteI was surpised they made it until midnight! I had picked them up before nap at daycare with the intention of putting them down for a late nap from 4-6pm and then hoping the super late bedtime wouldn't be as big of a deal. But as usualy I picked them up and they rebelled by neither of them napping, so instead of a late nap, they had no nap! Everyone made it till midnight (actually about 2am) and there was no crying! I still can't believe it....
